The scientific momentum around the fiftieth anniversary of the first European Waste Framework Directive, already initiated in preparation for this event, will officially be launched during a special session at the Opening The Bin 4 conference in Le Mans (Fri. 12 Dec. 2025, 9:00–10:30). Three speakers — a legal scholar, an economist and a public management researcher — will offer reflections on both achievements and future directions for European waste law. Particular attention will be given to governance frictions surrounding plastics, as well as to the limits of exporting European regulatory instruments to the Global South.
